Agreements

An Agreement is an international framework between bodies responsible for recognising and registering engineers who meet globally benchmarked competence standards.

The International Engineering Alliance supports four international competence Agreements – each aligned to a different category of engineering practice. These Agreements establish internationally recognised competency standards which signatories use to assess and register engineers within their home jurisdiction.

International registration through one of the Agreements assures that an engineer’s professional competence and ethical practice meet global benchmarks, enabling their credentials to be recognised across borders. This facilitates professional mobility, expands career opportunities, and supports collaboration on engineering projects worldwide.

In short, it makes it easier for engineers to have their professional standing recognised internationally, opening doors to work and contribute around the globe.

International Professional Engineers Agreement

The IPEA establishes global competence standards for professional engineers qualified for independent practice.

Originally the Engineers Mobility Forum, it enables participating organisations to maintain International Professional Engineers Register sections, facilitating international recognition and mobility while maintaining rigorous professional standards across participating jurisdictions.

APEC Engineers Agreement

The APEC Engineers agreement facilitates recognition of professional engineers across Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation economies.

Participating economies maintain registers of engineers meeting common international competence standards, enabling mutual recognition and facilitating trade in engineering services throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

International Engineering Technologist Agreement

The IETA facilitates cross-border practice by experienced engineering technologists through recognition frameworks based on national assessment systems.

Members establish registers for technologists meeting generic international standards, with recognition secured through continuing mutual inspection and evaluation of assessment systems across participating jurisdictions.

Agreement for International Engineering Technicians

The AIET recognises substantial equivalence of practicing engineering technicians' skills and provides quality assurance frameworks.

Members operate national sections of the International Engineering Technician register, enabling streamlined recognition and enhanced credibility for technicians seeking opportunities across participating countries.
